The Uptake of Engineered Nanoparticles by Sludge Particulates

The aim of the study was to understand removal characteristics engineered nanoparticles (ENP) from sludge treatment processes in wastewater plants (WWTP). Removal ENP (TiO2, ZnO) tested on primary and secondary sludge, using differential sedimentation experiments quantify attachment particulates. To better characteristics, aquatic conditions such as mixed liquid suspended solid concentration, Ionic strength wastewater, were varied replicate different field WWTPs. Results showed degrees multilayer surfaces based experimental conditions. verify effect surface characters with attachment, SiO2, ZnO, TiO2 tested, showing SiO2 highest amount regardless its charge. With variation up four magnitude sorption observed. Salt concentrations also high impacts sorption, where is decreased by half when doubling salt concentration. findings current research may aid understanding fate plants.
